The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, has commended Grace Villa for its continued efforts in transforming the lives of vulnerable girls and empowering them to become responsible citizens.

Bishop Akanjuna said that God works in His own ways and for a purpose, urging the girls under Grace Villa’s care to live in ways that bring joy to Christ rather than conforming to worldly behaviour.

He prayed that the Lord continues to bless Ruth Kendegye Ndyabahika, the founder of Grace Villa, for her commitment to uplifting the girl child.

He appealed to the girls to always remember their humble beginnings and extend support to others once they become successful.

“When you study, succeed, and become independent, come back and support others just as those before you have supported you,” he said.

The Bishop made the remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Grace Villa Ubuntu Resource Centre held at Grace Villa Home in Makanga, Kabale Municipality.

Grace Villa founder, Ruth Kendegye Ndyabahika, said the new resource centre will provide a safe and conducive space for learning, creativity, and personal growth. She noted that the home currently accommodates 35 girls and supports over 250 others who are in schools across the region.

“When all the girls come home during weekends or holidays, space becomes a challenge, especially when it rains or shines heavily,” she said, adding that the girls engage in activities such as filmmaking, tailoring, debating, and sports.

Ndyabahika appreciated the support from the Government of Uganda, the Uganda Research Institute, Ubuntu International, and Manish Masani, noting that the home spends about Shs 42 million on school fees each term, which remains a major challenge.

The project contractor, Mathias Mulumba of Mulumba and Company, said the construction will cost Shs 995 million and is expected to be completed within six months. He assured stakeholders of professionalism, integrity, and timely delivery.

Kabale Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Martin Nuwataho, commended Grace Villa for complementing government efforts to support vulnerable children, emphasising that development is a shared responsibility.

Kabale District Probation Officer, Monica Muhumuza, also applauded Grace Villa for being the only girls’ home in the district, helping girls to realise their potential. She pledged to monitor the construction process to ensure the project is completed on time and meets the required standards.

The launch of the Ubuntu Resource Centre marks another milestone in Grace Villa’s 12-year journey of empowering and nurturing girls in Kigezi.
